Found this back in December 09 – actually sat on the thing before i realised what it was. Thanks to Chris Moore for preparing it for me …

It’s actually a Megalytoceras confusum, from the Bridport Sands, bajocian, middle jurassic, 160 million years old … found a large nautilus at the same time which Chris has for preparation at the moment ….

A couple of shots showing some of the landslips to the east of Charmouth beneath Stonebarrow … the first shows two of the main slips (marked with arrows) … the closest one came down in Jan 2006 and has been moving and growing ever since. This is the most productive area at the moment as the slips has gone straight through the flatstone horizon …… the further slip came down in Jan 2007 and has been rapidly eroding ever since. This has mainly brought down part of the green ammonite beds and belemnite marls. It is no where near as productive as the earlier slip … but it is possible to find some nice green ammonite nodules and remains of marine reptiles from the red band …

Well after all my moans about keys at the Museum i’ve found a place that surpasses it .. Pentonville Prison which is my new day job …. it’s just like Porridge, and I get the full treatment of keys, chain and big belt!!

It’s now over a year since I started at the Natural History Museum as a volunteer – and i love it. In that time I have created a new catalogue of the theropod collection, spent hours picking fish and mammal fragments from wealden clay, rummaged around with bits of dinosaur fragments from Tanzania and am now playing with plesiosaurs and therapsids …..

The picture below is one of my favourites .. it’s actually from Manchester Museum and is the T. rex in the main geology gallery …
